Administration for the Sheriff's Office:

My name is Anthony “Tony” Helms and I am the Sheriff of Geneva County and proudly serve the citizens of this county. I would like to take a few minutes of your time to tell you a little about myself. I was raised in Geneva County and am proud to be a Geneva County citizen. I am married to Frannie Helms, have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. I attended and graduated public school in Geneva Al., graduating in 1977. I am a 1982 graduate of Southwest Al Police academy. I have received advanced training in advanced law enforcement related schools from State and Federal Training Academies and local Universities and a graduate of the National Sheriff’s Academy on Leadership. I have been a law enforcement officer for over 35 years. I previously worked for both Slocomb Police and Geneva Police departments. I have been employed at the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office since 1986 working for both Sheriff Doug Whittle and Sheriff Greg Ward. During my tenure at the Sheriff’s Office I have served as a Deputy Sheriff, as an investigator working narcotics and criminal investigation, as the Geneva County Drug Task Force Commander and as the Chief Deputy for seven years prior to becoming Sheriff. During my career, I received the 2007-2008 V.O.C.A.L. Investigator of the Year, 2009 LECC Award for Valor, Al. Dept. Of Public Safety, Distinguished Service Award.


Chief Deputy Danny Staley is the Sheriff’s right-hand man, he also helps with all tasks, schedules and transports for the County and Probate Office. Chief Deputy Danny Staley works very close with Court House Security, also Security for all the Circuit, District and Probate Judges.


Frannie Helms (Administrator) has been with the Geneva County Sheriff's Office since 2005, and Pam Gilley (Records Clerk)  joined our Office in 2018. These two ladies work hard to keep this Office functioning and operating efficiently.

Frannie is the Administrator. She works with all the financial statements and bank balances for the Sheriff and his Office. She maintains all bank accounts and does all checks and balances. She also works the monthly feed bill and final statements, Extradition of inmates in other States that are sent to the State Comptroller. She works with the all Bonding Companies with bonds and collects all bail bond fees. She takes care of all Civil, Criminal, District and Circuit documents which are logged in and sent out to the proper Officer to be served, then logged out and sent back to the Courts. She keeps check books balanced and ready for the State Auditors for each of the following accounts: Drug Task Force, General Funds, Sex Offender Fees, Bonding Fees, Federal Assets, and Pistol Permits.

Pam works with all Law Enforcement Officers' to keep their reports/records in order and up to date. She also works close with the State of Alabama to assure that records are validated and sent out to the proper agencies.  She also works with the Military in background checks for new recruits.

Pam and Frannie both work together in greeting the public, answering questions, and helping direct those in need. Also they work background checks and issue pistol permits to the residents of Geneva County.
